Midwest Section CTCThe 11th Annual USTA/Midwest Section Competition Training Center Championships were held at the Barbara Wynne Tennis Center at North Central High School from April 18-19 in Indianapolis, In. Sixty-four enthusiastic and competitive junior players from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin participated in this year’s championships.
Congratulations to our winners: Jeremy Bush (B14) from Long Grove, Il., and Lexi Baylis (G14) from Clarkston, Mi.Following are this year’s sportsmanship award winners: Kelsey Chin (G14) from Aurora, Il., and Jasper Koenen (B14) from Saint Charles, Il. The section championships are designed to provide USTA Player Development Competition Training Center players (players must be 14 years and under to participate) in the USTA/Midwest Section (from 16 centers) with an opportunity to compete against players from other Competition Training Centers. This event consisted of a modified compass draw that provided all players with at least four rounds of competition.
The event also provided participants with an opportunity to progress from District to Section competition, and to be exposed to additional coaching. The following players from the section championships will represent the USTA/Midwest Section in the Competition Training Center Central Regional tournament on May 1-3 in St. Louis, Mo. The USTA/Midwest Section squad will be vying for its third consecutive title in May.
