US Team Wins Queens Cup

Lyn Tietz
Queens Cup Winners
Lyn Tietz, of Oak Brook, Ill., competed on the United States team that won the 2012 ITF Super Senior World Team Championships.

The nation’s top men and women tennis players in age groups 60 to 80 competed against teams from over 30 countries. The Championships were held in Croatia at sites in the cities of Umag and Novigard from September 10-15, 2012. Approximately 1,000 athletes participated in the event.

Joining Lyn Tietz representing the United States at the 2012 ITF Super Senior World Team Championships in the Queens Cup for women 75 were Kathy Langer, Rockwell, TX, Dorothy Matthiessen Pasadena, CA and Doris deVries Reno, NV.

Tietz represented the U.S. on the Althea Gibson Cup team (70s) in 2009. "It is a wonderful opportunity to represent the USA in a worldwide event.  It is a great chance to meet players from other countries and demonstrate our good sportsmanship and camaraderie, great skill level and pride in the USA," commented Tietz upon her selection to the Queens Cup team.  Lyn was the finalist in the 2012 National Clay Court Women’s (75) Singles and the winner of the 2012 Crawford Cup Women’s (75) Singles Championship.

The United States was the defending World Champion in seven of the 10 Cups played in Croatia.

Following the ITF Super Senior World Team Championships, the ITF Super Senior World Individual Championships will take place September 16-23, 2012 in Umag.

The ITF Seniors/Super-Seniors World Team Championships is the most coveted team event on the ITF Seniors circuit.  Since its inception, the number of competitors attracted to this event has increased year by year. In 1993, the ITF took the decision to divide the Seniors World Championships into two groups, Seniors for the younger veterans and Super-Seniors for the older players.
