Portable Net at the Capitol

The Michigan Recreation and Parks Association, No Child Left Inside Coalition, and the Michigan DNR hosted the Get Outside and Play at the Capitol Lawn, in Lansing, Michigan earlier this summer. Approximately 1,300 kids of all ages representing 15 different park summer camps participated in outdoor activities, including tennis.
Many of the kids visited the USTA/Midwest Section tennis activity station to participate in Tennis Skillastics and to learn how to rally and play tennis using the QuickStart Tennis play format. Two portable tennis nets were set up on the capitol lawn and groups of 35 – 40 kids were able to hit and participate in Tennis Skillastics activities using junior tennis racquets and foam tennis balls. All tennis participants received information on local tennis programming, a USTA give-away prize and information about the 10 and Under First Year Free Jr. USTA Membership.
