US Open
The United States Tennis Association (USTA) is the national governing body for the sport of tennis and the recognized leader in promoting and developing the sport’s growth on every level in the United States, from local communities to the crown jewel of the professional game, the US Open. The 2009 event is scheduled from August 31-September 9.
For the first time in the history of the event, 2008 US Open attendance topped 720,000, surpassing the previous all-time high of 700,000 set in 2007. The US Open remains the highest attended annual event in sports.
US Open Series
Beginning in mid-July each year, the US Open Series traces a path across North America with 10 tournaments in nine cities over six weeks, leading to the grand finale – the US Open in New York. The men’s and women’s winners of the US Open Series play for double prize money at the US Open, adding extra incentive for the players and extra excitement for the fans.
With more than 200 hours of live television coverage, including live back-to-back men’s and women’s finals every Sunday afternoon, the US Open Series allows tennis fans to follow their favorite sport as never before. Two of the tournaments on this summer’s US Open Series schedule take place right here in the Midwest – Indianapolis and Cincinnati. The 2009 Indianapolis tournament takes place from July 18-26. The 2009 schedule in Cincinnati has the women's tournament slated August 8-16 followed by the men's tournament August 15-23.
