2012 USTA/Midwest Section  Awards Nominations 

A description of the awards follows, and nomination forms, when available, can be selected via the appropriate link.  You can also call your District office, or the USTA/Midwest Section office for a nomination form. The 2012 nomination forms are due on or before February 24, 2012.

Stanley Malless Award  - The Stanley Malless Award is presented to a volunteer recognizing distinguished service in his or her district. The award especially honors the individual who has contributed to the development of tennis programs from the grass roots up for five years or more.

Cap Leighton Award  - The Cap Leighton Award recognizes the tennis teaching professional who contributes to tennis in his or her community beyond his livelihood. This person gives freely in promoting involvement in tennis for players of all levels and ages, and assists in developing tennis programs and participation in these programs.

Frank Dowling Award - The Frank Dowling Award recognizes an individual who has displayed outstanding attributes as a tennis official in the USTA/Midwest Section for at least five years.

Fred Burns Award - The Fred Burns Award that recognizes the journalist, sportscaster, newspaper, radio, or television station, which has contributed the most toward promoting tennis on the local, district, or sectional level.

Helen Shockley Award - The Helen Shockley Award recognizes the outstanding 16 or 18-and-under age division female player from the USTA/Midwest Section for the highest standards of tennis accomplishments, character, conduct, sportsmanship, appearance and amateurism.

Wallace R. Holzman, Sr. Award - The Wallace R. Holzman, Sr., Award recognizes the outstanding 16 or 18-and-under age division male player from the USTA/Midwest Section for the highest standards of tennis accomplishments, character, conduct, sportsmanship, appearance and amateurism.

CTA of the Year Award - The CTA Award recognizes outstanding service rendered in the community served, and in the growth and development of the sport of tennis.

2012 USTA/Midwest Section Fall Awards Nominations 

 

A description of the awards follows, and nomination forms, available in late spring, may be selected via the appropriate link.  You can also call your District office, or the USTA/Midwest Section office for a nomination form. The 2012 nomination forms are due on or before September 15, 2012.
 

 

Mel Bergman Award - The USTA/Midwest Section's most prestigious award, The Mel Bergman Award, is given in recognition of continuous and distinguished service to the USTA/Midwest Section in an unselfish, dedicated manner for ten years or more. Mel Bergman, an extremely dedicated volunteer, was a President of the USTA/Midwest Section who served on the USTA Executive Committee.

 

 
Family of the Year Award  - This award is presented to the family in the USTA/Midwest Section that has contributed the most toward tennis through the years. The family members are all involved in tennis serving their local area or district in promoting and perpetuating the development of tennis on all levels.
 
 
 
USTA/NJTL Award  - This award recognizes the outstanding NJTL Chapter in the USTA/Midwest Section that has demonstrated continued excellence in recreational tennis. The criteria include: quality of on-court programming, qualify of off-court programming, interaction with local parks and recreation departments, and contributions to local community.
 

 

Outstanding Performance Award - The USTA/Midwest Section is excited to announce it will present an Outstanding Performance Award this year.  This new award recognizes the individual or organization for outstanding performance and contributions within the USTA/Midwest Section.  This award especially honors the individual or organization who has contributed to a key operational priority (i.e., QuickStart Tennis, Flex Leagues, Tennis on Campus) of the USTA/Midwest Section over the past 12 months.  This award will be presented to the winner at a subsequent meeting pertaining to the field of their contribution.
