The Barbara S. Wynne Tennis Center at North Central High School served as the host site in Indianapolis for the boys' and girls' 18-and-under and 16-and-under age divisions. The second site for this year’s competition will be Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, which plays host to the boys and girls 14-and-under and 12-and-under age divisions.
Winners from the USTA/Midwest Section Closed Junior Championship will be automatically included in the section quota for the USTA Boys’ and Girls’ 12, 14, 16, and 18 National Championships this August. The top finishers in each division of the USTA/Midwest Section Closed Junior Championship will be included in the section quota provided they meet the designated tournament requirements.
Past participants in this championship event include Todd Martin, Evan King, Laura Granville, Amy Frazier, Luke and Murphy Jensen, Katrina Adams, Mali Vai Washington, Aaron Krickstein, Andrea Jaeger, Rajeev Ram, Donald Young, Jr., and the late Todd Witsken.
The boys and girls 14-and-under and 12-and-under age divisions championship is also a Nike Junior Tour Qualifying event. The Nike Junior Tour (NJT) is a worldwide series of junior singles tournaments for Boy’s and Girls in the 12 and 14 age groups. There are currently 28 countries participating in the NJT, representing over 60,000 players. Former NJT International Masters players include Rafael Nadal who won the event three times for Spain. The winners of the USTA/Midwest Section Closed Junior Championship will be invited to compete at the NJT USA National Masters from September 15-18, 2011, at the prestigious Evert Tennis Academy in Boca Raton, Florida.
Players competing in the USTA/Midwest Section Closed Junior Championship have been endorsed through their district. Prior to this competition, players participated in a tournament designated by the district as the one used for endorsement purposes. This district tournament is commonly referred to as the District Qualifier.
